Back Up & Move Your Data

FreeClassTool has no accounts: your class list, review games, dashboard, flashcards and settings are saved only in this browser on this computer. Use a backup file to move them to a new laptop, a classroom computer or your home computer — or to keep a copy safe if the browser’s data gets cleared.

  1. Step 1

    Download a backup

    On the computer you use now, press Download Backup below. You get one small .json file.

  2. Step 2

    Move the file

    Email it to yourself, save it to Google Drive or OneDrive, or copy it to a USB drive.

  3. Step 3

    Restore it

    On the new computer, open this page, choose the file and press Restore This Backup.

Open FreeClassTool on the new computer, come to this page and choose your backup file.

Using a shared computer?

Remove your class list and everything else FreeClassTool saved in this browser — for example on a substitute’s laptop or a library computer.

The backup file never leaves your computer unless you move it yourself — nothing is uploaded to FreeClassTool. It contains your students’ names, so store it like any other class document.
