How to Use the Interactive Hundreds Chart

A hundreds chart shows numbers in rows of ten, so place value and counting patterns are easy to see. This one comes in three versions: 1–100, 0–99 and 1–120. Tap or drag across squares to color them with six colors, or pick a pattern such as counting by 2s, 5s or 10s, a custom step, evens or odds, and color it all at once. Count along colors the pattern one square at a time so the class can count out loud. Cover squares for missing-number practice, then tap to reveal them. You can also print filled, blank and missing-number charts. It runs free in your browser, with no sign-up.

Use the hundreds chart in 3 steps

  1. Pick a chart and a color. Choose 1–100, 0–99 or 1–120, then tap a color. Tap or drag across squares to color them, and tap a colored square again to erase it. The Eraser removes colors, and Clear colors empties the chart.

  2. Highlight a pattern. Choose 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 10s, Custom, Evens or Odds, and set Start at for skip counting. Press Color pattern to color every square at once, or Count along to color one square at a time while the class counts.

  3. Practice, project or print. Press Cover random squares or use the Cover tool, and students tap a covered square to check their answer. Open Classroom Presentation Mode for the big screen, or download a filled, blank or missing numbers chart as a PDF.

Ways to use the Hundreds Chart in class

  • Count along by 5s and 10s

Choose 5s, press Count along and have the class count out loud as each square fills with color. Then pick a new color, choose 10s and count again. Ask students what they notice about the squares that got both colors and which column the 10s fill.

  • Missing number warm-up

Set Squares to cover to 10 and press Cover random squares. Point to a covered square and ask which number hides there and how they know, using the number above, below or beside it. A student taps the square to reveal the answer, and the counter shows how many the class has revealed.

  • Evens and odds pattern talk

Color the Evens in one color and the Odds in another, then look at the columns. Students see that every column is all even or all odd. Switch to the 0–99 chart and ask why each row now starts with a number ending in 0.

  • Blank chart check-in

Print the blank chart and have students fill in as many numbers as they can in order. For a shorter task, print the missing numbers chart with 10 to 20 blanks and use its answer key page to check the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 1–100, 0–99 and 1–120 charts?

All three have ten squares in each row. The 1–100 chart puts 10, 20, 30 and so on at the end of each row. The 0–99 chart starts each row with a multiple of ten, so every number in a row shares the same tens digit. The 1–120 chart adds two more rows for counting past 100.

What is on the printable PDFs?

Download Filled Chart PDF prints every number, and can include the squares you colored. Download Blank Chart PDF prints empty squares with Name and Date lines. Download Missing Numbers PDF leaves random squares empty, from 1 to 60 of them, and adds an answer key page. Each PDF prints on US Letter or A4 paper.

Does it work on Chromebooks, iPads and interactive whiteboards?

Yes. The chart shrinks to fit a phone and fills the screen in Classroom Presentation Mode. With a mouse or pen you can drag across squares to color them; on a touch screen you tap each square, or drag in presentation mode. You can also move between squares with the arrow keys and press Enter to color one.

Can I skip count from a number other than zero?

Yes. Choose a step, or pick Custom and set Count by to any number from 1 to 50, then change Start at. For example, counting by 10s from 3 colors 3, 13, 23 and so on, which shows how adding ten moves straight down one row.

Can I hide the numbers I choose instead of random ones?

Yes. Pick the Cover tool and tap the squares you want to hide, or choose a pattern and press Cover pattern to hide every square in it. With a color or the Eraser selected, tapping a covered square reveals it, and Reveal all, Cover again and Remove covers reset the practice.

Will my colors still be there next time?

Yes. The chart remembers your colored squares, chart version, color and pattern settings in this browser. Covered squares are not saved, so each practice round starts fresh. Use the Backup page to move your settings to another browser.
