How to Use the Classroom Screen Dashboard

A classroom screen dashboard puts everything students need to see on one board: how much time is left, whose turn it is, how loud they can be and what to do next. Instead of switching between tabs, drag the widgets you need onto one screen, size them for the back row and project it. It runs free in your browser on Chromebooks, iPads, laptops and interactive whiteboards — no app, no account, and your board is saved on your device for the next lesson.

Set up your board in 3 steps

  1. Add widgets or start from a layout. Choose from 12 widgets — Timer, Stopwatch, Clock, Name Picker, Groups, Noise Level, Traffic Light, Voice Level, Text, Checklist, Dice and QR Code — or pick a ready-made layout for independent work, group work or morning meeting.

  2. Arrange it your way. Drag each widget by its top bar and resize it from the bottom-right corner (or use the arrow keys on its grip). Pick a background, including seasonal Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving and spring themes.

  3. Project it for the class. Classroom Presentation Mode fills the screen with your board and hides the ads. A small toolbar stays at the bottom to add widgets, switch layouts or mute sounds — press T to hide it.

Ways to use the classroom screen dashboard

  • Morning meeting board

Start from the Morning Meeting layout: an analog clock with the date, a greeting note and a Checklist of today’s agenda that students watch you tick off. The Name Picker widget chooses who leads the greeting or shares news, drawing from the same class list as the other name tools.

  • Quiet independent work time

The Independent Work layout puts the task in a Text note, a 15 minute Timer, a Traffic Light and Voice Level 0 on one screen. Students can check what to do and how long is left without asking, and you can tap the light to yellow when it’s time to start wrapping up.

  • Group work with a volume check

Pick the Group Work layout to make random groups from your class list, run a 10 minute timer and post Voice Level 3 for table talk. The Noise Level widget shows how loud the room is in real time, so groups can adjust themselves before you need to step in.

  • Math warm-ups with dice

Add the Dice widget and roll up to three dice for a quick fact warm-up: students add, subtract or multiply the numbers on their whiteboards. Pair it with a Stopwatch for timed rounds and a Text note with the directions, and the whole bell-ringer runs from one projected board.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the names in the Name Picker and Groups widgets come from?

From the same class list as the Random Name Picker, Wheel of Names, Magic Hat, Group Maker and Duck Race, so you only type it once. The list is saved in this browser on your device and is never uploaded.

Does the Noise Level widget record my class?

No. The microphone only measures the volume live inside your browser. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent anywhere, and the microphone turns off when you press Stop or leave the page.

Will my board still be there tomorrow?

Yes. Your widgets, their positions and settings, and your background are saved automatically in this browser. A running timer even keeps counting if you refresh the page.

Can I put two timers on the board at once?

Yes. You can add any widget more than once, up to 16 widgets on one board — for example a timer for station rotations next to a timer for the whole work block, or several Text notes in different colors. Each timer counts down from up to 99:59 and rings an alarm bell when it reaches zero, unless sounds are muted.

How do I add a QR code to my classroom screen?

Add the QR Code widget and paste a link, such as an assignment page or a class website. The code is drawn right on the board, and students scan it with a tablet or phone camera to open the page. The code is made in your browser — the link isn’t sent anywhere. If a link is too long for a QR code, the widget tells you.

Will my screen go to sleep while the board is projected?

In Classroom Presentation Mode, the page asks your browser to keep the screen awake, so the board doesn’t dim in the middle of a lesson. This works in browsers that support screen wake lock; if a battery-saver setting blocks it, the board keeps working and the screen may just dim. Timers keep accurate time either way.
