How to Use the Desk Name Plates & Name Tags Maker
This maker prints a card for every name in your class list, or in a custom list you type just for it. Choose a Desk name plate (2 per page, with an optional Aa–Zz alphabet strip, a 0–20 or 0–120 number line and left and right hand outlines marked L and R), a Fold-over tent card (1 per page, the name on both halves), a Name tag / badge (8 or 10 per page) or a Cubby / locker label (12, 15, 18 or 21 per page). Names print in Print, Dotted print, Cursive or Dotted cursive, with optional handwriting lines. The preview shows exactly what prints, and names never leave your device.
Make name plates in 3 steps
Add your names. Choose Class list to use the same list as the other name tools, or Custom list to type names just for these cards, one per line. Set Extra blank cards if you want spares to write on by hand.
Pick a style and look. Choose Desk name plate, Fold-over tent card, Name tag / badge or Cubby / locker label. Pick the lettering, turn Handwriting lines on or off, choose a color theme (or Ink saver) and type an optional extra line such as your name and room number.
Download and cut. Press Download PDF, print at 100%, and cut on the gray dashed lines. For tent cards, fold on the dashed line marked Fold. Press Classroom Presentation Mode to show each card large on the board, one name at a time.
Ways to use the Desk Name Plates & Name Tags maker in class
Desk plates that double as a reference
Choose Desk name plate with the Alphabet strip, a 0–20 or 0–120 Number line and Left and right hands turned on. Tape one to each desk so students can check letters, numbers and left from right while they work.
Name tracing in the first weeks
Pick Dotted print with Handwriting lines and print a set of desk plates or name tags. Students trace their own name with a pencil or crayon, then write it on their own on a blank card from Extra blank cards.
Tent cards for groups and visitors
Print Fold-over tent cards for small-group tables, a substitute teacher or a class event, so everyone can read names from the front and the back of the room. Use the extra line for a table number or the date.
Labels for cubbies, hooks and bins
Choose Cubby / locker label with 12 to 21 per page and the Rainbow theme so each label gets the next color. Add your room number on the extra line and print one sheet for cubbies, coat hooks or supply bins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I print a name plate for every student at once?
Yes. Every name in the list gets its own card in one PDF: 2 desk name plates per page, 1 tent card per page, 8 or 10 name tags per page, or 12 to 21 cubby labels per page. The preview caption shows how many cards and pages you will get.
Can students trace their names?
Yes. Choose Dotted print or Dotted cursive, and the letters print as dots along the middle of each stroke. Turn on Handwriting lines to add a top line, a dashed midline and a baseline behind each name.
How does the fold-over tent card work?
The name prints on both halves of the page, and the top copy is upside down. Cut on the gray dashed outline and fold on the dashed line marked Fold. The card stands up and the name reads the right way from the front and the back.
Are the names uploaded anywhere?
No. The names are drawn and the PDF is made right in your browser. The class list and your settings are saved on this device only, and the names are never sent to a server.
Can I save colored ink?
Yes. Choose the Ink saver color theme. The colored bars, bands and headers are left out, so the cards print in dark text with gray lines and light gray hand outlines.
What happens with long names?
Each name is printed as large as fits on its card. A long first and last name that would print small on one line is split onto two lines at a space. Names longer than 40 characters are shortened.
