Free Printable Lesson Plan Template for Teachers

Writing lesson plans is one of the most time-consuming parts of teaching. This free lesson plan generator gives you a complete, ready-to-teach plan in seconds: choose a grade, subject, topic and lesson length, and get learning objectives, a materials list, a timed lesson outline, assessment ideas, an exit ticket and differentiation tips. Every plan follows the gradual-release model — I do, we do, you do — so it’s easy to teach from and easy to share with your team or administrator.

Write a lesson plan in 3 quick steps

  1. Enter the lesson details. Pick the grade level and subject, type your topic, and choose 30, 45 or 60 minutes. The pacing for each part of the lesson adjusts automatically.

  2. Generate and personalize. Click Generate Lesson Plan, then Edit plan to add the exact standard code, swap in your own activities or change the minutes. Click Generate again any time for fresh activity ideas.

  3. Share, print or teach from it. Copy the plan into Google Docs or an email, download a printable PDF for your sub binder, or open Classroom Presentation Mode to show students the “I can” goals and today’s agenda.

Ways to use it in your classroom

  • A first draft for a new unit

Enter the topic for each lesson in a new unit and generate a plan for each one. Click Generate again for different warm-ups and activities until one fits, then use Edit plan to add your own materials, texts and examples, so each lesson starts from a full structure.

  • Post “I can” goals for students

Open Classroom Presentation Mode at the start of the lesson. Students see the objectives written as “I can” statements and an agenda with the minutes for each part. Click Next as you move through the lesson, and finished parts are crossed off so everyone knows what comes next.

  • Paste it into your school’s template

Click Copy to Clipboard and paste into Google Docs or Word, where the headings and bullet points keep their formatting. That makes it quick to move the objectives, outline and differentiation into your school’s required template before an observation, then add the exact standard code.

  • Run the lesson with linked tools

Each plan ends with links to free FreeClassTool tools that fit the lesson: a visual timer for independent practice, a name picker for cold calls, a group maker for partner work, a worksheet or word search for practice, and review bingo for a Friday game.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these lesson plans aligned to Common Core?

Math and ELA plans reference the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice and the ELA anchor standards, science plans use the NGSS science and engineering practices, and social studies plans follow the C3 Framework. Because every topic is different, each plan reminds you where to add the exact grade-level standard code.

Can I use these plans for observations or substitute teachers?

Yes. The template includes what administrators and subs usually look for — objectives, materials, a timed outline, checks for understanding and differentiation — and it’s free to edit, print and share.

Can I edit the plan before I print it?

Yes. Click Edit plan to change the objectives, activities, timing or any other section, then copy the plan into Google Docs or an email, or download it as a printable PDF.

Does the lesson plan generator use AI?

No. Plans are built from a library of lesson templates written for each subject and grade band, with your topic filled in. Clicking Generate again picks a different mix of activities from that library. Everything happens in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere, so read through each plan and adjust it to your students.

What grades and subjects does it cover?

Choose Kindergarten, any grade from 1 to 5, Middle School (6–8) or High School (9–12), and one of four subjects: Math, English Language Arts, Science or Social Studies. Lessons can run 30, 45 or 60 minutes, and the warm-up, instruction, practice and closure times adjust to fit.

Will my lesson plan be saved?

Your latest plan, including your edits, is saved in this browser on this device, so it’s still there when you come back. Clicking Generate Lesson Plan again replaces it (you’re asked to confirm first if you’ve edited it), so copy it into a document or download the PDF for any plan you want to keep.
