About the Christmas Word Search

This Christmas word search hides 12 holiday words: Santa, Reindeer, Sleigh, Snowman, Stocking, Ornament, Wreath, Presents, Cookies, Gingerbread, Tinsel and Holly. It opens on a Medium 12 × 12 grid with words that read across, down and diagonally, which suits most students in grades 1 through 4. For younger students, pick Small and remove a few words; for older ones, pick Large and turn on Backwards. Press Generate Puzzle for a different arrangement of the same words, and print two versions so neighbors can’t copy each other. The PDF comes with a separate answer key, and you can type in your own words, like the names of your class, at any time.

Ways to use a Christmas word search

  • Last day before winter break

Print one copy per student for a calm activity while classmates finish up, or between party activities.

  • Spelling with holiday words

Swap in this week’s spelling words with a Christmas title, so the practice feels like part of the celebration.

  • Race on the board

Show the puzzle in Classroom Presentation Mode and let teams take turns finding a word. Tap a word in the list when it is found, and it lights up on the grid.

  • Two levels in one class

Print a Small puzzle without backwards words and a Large puzzle with them, and let students choose their challenge.
