The class vote keeps counts only, never names, and isn’t saved: votes and history clear when you close or reload the page. Your filters, settings and favorites are saved in this browser.

A Would You Rather Game for the Whole Class

Put a kid-safe question on the board in large type: a Would you rather… question with two options, or a quick This or that? pair like cats or dogs. The bank has more than 250 original questions in nine categories, from Silly and Food to Superpowers, Get to know you and Thinking, each tagged for grades K–2, 3–5 or 6–8. Students tap A or B to vote, or you count hands and tap once per vote. The results stay hidden until you press Reveal, then the bar grows to show the counts and percentages. Next question doesn’t repeat a question until every matching one has been shown, and the vote keeps counts only, never names.

Play Would You Rather in 3 steps

  1. Choose your questions. Pick Both, Would you rather or This or that, a grade band and the categories you want. Tap the star on a question to save it to your favorites, and turn on Favorites only to play just those.

  2. Show it and vote. Press Classroom Presentation Mode to show the board big on a projector or smartboard. Students tap A or B, or you press A, B or the arrow keys. While Hide results until reveal is on, only the number of votes shows.

  3. Reveal and talk about it. Press Reveal (or R) to show the counts and percentages, with the side that got more votes marked. Turn on the “Why?” follow-up to add “Turn and tell a partner why.” under the question, then press Next question (or N).

Ways to use Would You Rather in class

  • Morning meeting warm-up

Choose Get to know you or Silly and show one question while students settle in. Everyone votes, you press Reveal, and a few students from each side share their reason.

  • Quick brain break

Pick This or that for fast pairs like beach or mountains and run several questions in a row. Students point to the A or B side of the room while you tap once per vote to count.

  • Partner talk with a reason

Turn on the “Why?” follow-up so “Turn and tell a partner why.” shows under the question. On the page, the Discussion timer links open a 1 minute or 2 minute timer in a new tab.

  • Question cards for a jar or sub plan

Set the filters, then press Download Question Cards (PDF) for 8 cards per page with dashed cut lines. Cut them apart for a question jar, a center or a substitute’s folder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the questions safe for kids?

The questions were written for K–8 classrooms and stay away from gross-out, scary and violent topics, and from family, money, religion and politics. Questions in the Thinking category are a little deeper and are mostly tagged for grades 3–8.

Is the class vote anonymous?

Yes. The vote keeps counts only, never names. Votes and the question history are kept only while the page is open and clear when you close or reload it. Only your filters, settings and favorites are saved in this browser.

Is this Would You Rather game free?

Yes. It’s free with no sign-up and runs in your browser. Your filters, settings and favorites are saved in this browser, so they’re still there the next time you open the page on the same device.

Does it work on a smartboard or projector?

Yes. Classroom Presentation Mode fills the screen, hides the site’s ads and shows the question, the A and B halves and the vote in large type. Students can tap a half on a touch screen. Where the browser supports it, the screen is kept awake while you present. Press Exit or Esc to leave.

Can I run it from the keyboard?

Yes, in Classroom Presentation Mode or after you click the game on the page. A or the left arrow votes A, B or the right arrow votes B, R reveals the results and N shows the next question.

Will the same question come up twice?

Not until every question that matches your filters has been shown; then a new round starts. The History list keeps the questions from this visit, so you can tap one to show it again.
