Make a graphic organizer in 3 steps
Choose an organizer. Pick one from the gallery, such as Venn Diagram, KWL Chart or Concept Web. Where it applies, choose how many circles, columns, details, boxes, rows or bubbles you want.
Make it yours. Type a title and change any heading, such as Pros and Cons on the T-Chart. Choose Blank, Lines or Wide lines for the writing space, Portrait or Landscape, and US Letter or A4, and turn the Name and Date line on or off.
Print it or fill it in on screen. Press Download PDF for a printable page. Open Fill on screen to type into the boxes, or press Classroom Presentation Mode to fill in the organizer together on the board.
Ways to use the Graphic Organizer Maker in class
Fill in a Venn diagram together
Choose Venn Diagram, rename Topic A and Topic B to the two things you are comparing, and open Classroom Presentation Mode. Click a part of the diagram and type what the class says, then press Clear text when you are ready to start the next comparison.
Start and end a unit with a KWL chart
Print the KWL Chart before a new unit and have students fill in what they know and what they want to know. Return to the same page at the end for the L column, or choose KWHL to add a column for how they will find out.
Model it, then hand out the blank copy
Type a worked example into a Story Map or Main Idea & Details organizer in Fill on screen, then set PDF pages to Both. You get the blank student page and your filled-in model in one PDF, ready to print or project.
Frayer models for new vocabulary
Print a Frayer Model for each key word in a lesson. Students write the word in the center oval, then add a definition, characteristics, examples and non-examples. Wide lines give younger writers more room.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which graphic organizers can I make?
There are 11: Venn Diagram with 2 or 3 circles, KWL Chart or KWHL Chart, T-Chart, Story Map, Main Idea & Details with 3 or 4 details, Sequence Chart with 4 to 6 boxes, Frayer Model, Cause & Effect with 2 to 4 rows, Compare & Contrast, 4-Square Writing and Concept Web with 4 to 8 bubbles.
Can I print a filled-in answer key?
Yes. Type into the boxes in Fill on screen, then set PDF pages to With your text. Your text prints in blue inside each box. Choose Both to get the blank student page first and your filled-in page second in the same PDF.
Can students fill in an organizer on the computer?
Yes. Open Fill on screen and click any box to type in it. The text is saved in this browser, so it is still there when you come back. Clear text empties every box, and Undo brings the text back if you clear it by mistake.
Can I change the headings on an organizer?
Yes. Every organizer lists its headings under Headings, and you can type over any of them or clear one to leave it blank. Reset headings brings back the original wording, and the preview updates as you type.
Do the organizers have lines for writing?
You choose. Blank leaves open space, Lines adds writing lines 8 mm apart and Wide lines adds lines 12 mm apart for younger students. On a Venn diagram the lines run across the circles and break where they meet a circle edge.
Is my text saved?
Your organizer settings and the text you type are saved in this browser for each organizer, so switching between organizers keeps your work. Nothing is uploaded. To move it to another computer, save a backup file on the Backup page.
