About the Cursive Name Tracing Worksheets

A name is a natural first word to practice in cursive once its letters have been introduced, and it is the start of a signature. This page opens on dotted Cursive in Medium lines (sized for grades 1 and 2): the name repeats across each row in joined, dotted letters, and a blank ruled line follows every traced row. Type any name to change it, or choose My class list under Practice to print a page for every student in one PDF. If a name is long, it simply appears fewer times per row rather than shrinking. Switch to Large lines for more room, or back to Letter Tracing for a dotted print version of the same name.

Ways to use cursive name tracing

  • Learning to sign their name

After the cursive letters in a student’s name have been taught, a page of dotted name practice turns those letters into a signature.

  • Morning work for the whole class

Print the class set once and hand out each student’s page as morning work for a few days in a row.

  • Model joins on the board

Show one name at a time in Classroom Presentation Mode and talk through how each letter joins the next before students practice.

  • Practice at home

Send a page home with students who are still working on their cursive name, so the practice matches what they do in class.

Frequently Asked Questions

What cursive style do the worksheets use?

The Cursive style uses a traditional US school cursive with joined letters, printed as dots to trace. The same name in the Solid Letters style gives a print model to copy instead.

Can I mix print and cursive on one worksheet?

Not on the same page: the style applies to the whole worksheet. Make one PDF in Letter Tracing and one in Cursive if you want both.
