About the Mandala Coloring Pages for Kids

Mandalas are round designs that repeat the same shapes all the way around the center, which makes them relaxing to color and a natural way to see symmetry. The Flower, Sunshine and Big Petal Mandalas and the Rainbow Rings are Simple, with large spaces for younger students. The Heart, Star, Leafy and Butterfly Mandalas, the Snowflake Pattern and the Kaleidoscope Pattern are Detailed, with rings of small shapes for grades 2 and up. Because every ring repeats, they make good color-by-number pages too: the numbers show the pattern as students fill it in.

Ways to use mandala coloring pages

  • Calm-down time

Keep a stack of mandalas in a calm-down corner. Repeating a color around the circle is a quiet, focusing task.

  • Rotational symmetry

Ask students how many times each shape repeats around the center, then color each ring in one color to see it.

  • Pattern practice

Have younger students color the petals in an AB pattern, such as red, yellow, red, yellow, all the way around.

  • After testing

Print a Detailed mandala with Thin lines for older students to color quietly after a test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these mandalas too hard for kindergarten?

The Flower, Sunshine and Big Petal Mandalas and the Rainbow Rings have big spaces and work well in kindergarten, especially with Bold lines. Save the Detailed ones for older students.

Can I color a mandala on the smartboard?

Yes. Press Color on the Board, pick a color and tap each space. Undo takes back the last fill, and Start over clears the picture.
