Starter sets

15 pairs

Example: cat - gato makes two cards that match. A single word on a line makes two identical cards. For subtraction, put = between the sides: 10 - 3 = 7.

Each New Game picks 8 of your 15 pairs at random (16 cards).

Flip back cards that don’t match

Your pairs and settings are saved in this browser. Reshuffle keeps the same cards and moves them to new spots; New Game also picks a new set of pairs when your list has more than you play with.

A Memory Match Game Built From Your Own Word Pairs

Memory match, also called concentration, asks students to remember where they saw a card and find its partner. Type one pair per line, such as a word and its translation, a fact and its answer, or a term and its meaning, and the game turns your list into a grid of numbered cards. A single word on a line makes two identical cards. Students flip two cards per turn: a match stays face up with a green ring, and cards that don’t match flip back. Play solo with a move counter and timer, or let 2–4 teams take turns and score pairs. It runs free in the browser with no account.

Play a memory match game in 3 steps

  1. Add your pairs. Type one pair per line with a spaced dash between the two sides, like “cat - gato” or “3 × 4 - 12”, or tap a starter set: Sight Words, Multiplication Facts or Opposites. Lines with one word make identical pairs.

  2. Choose the game. Pick 4 to 15 pairs per game, then choose Solo or Teams. With Teams, set 2 to 4 teams and type their names. Under Flip back cards that don’t match, choose After 1.5 seconds or On the next tap.

  3. Flip and find the pairs. Tap two cards per turn, or use the arrow keys and Enter. Classroom Presentation Mode fills the screen with big cards for the projector. When every pair is found, the result shows with confetti, and Play Again deals a new game.

Ways to use the Memory Match Game in class

  • Vocabulary review on the board

Type this week’s vocabulary words with their meanings, one pair per line, and project the grid. Students call out two card numbers, you tap them, and the class reads both cards aloud before deciding whether they belong together.

  • Sight word practice for K–1

Tap the Sight Words starter set or type your own list with one word per line, so each word makes two identical cards. Choose 4 or 6 pairs for young students, and have them read each card out loud as it flips.

  • Math facts team game

Use the Multiplication Facts starter set or type your own facts with = between the fact and the answer. Switch Players to Teams, name 2 to 4 teams, and let each team take a turn. A match scores a point and keeps the turn.

  • Second language and science terms

Pair English words with their Spanish or French translations, or science terms with short definitions such as photosynthesis - how plants make food. Each New Game picks a new set of pairs when your list is longer than the number you play with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this memory game free?

Yes. It’s free with no sign-up and no limit on how many games you play. Your pairs and settings are saved in this browser, so they’re still there the next time you open the page on the same device.

How do teams take turns?

The team whose turn it is is highlighted above the cards. A team flips two cards: a match scores one pair for that team and the same team goes again, while a miss passes the turn to the next team. When the last pair is found, the team with the most pairs wins, and ties are shown as ties.

Can I use my own vocabulary or math facts?

Yes. Type or paste up to 60 pairs, one per line, with up to 50 characters on each side. Each card’s text must be different from every other card, so a duplicate line is left out with a note. For subtraction facts, put = between the sides, as in 10 - 3 = 7.

What does Reshuffle do?

Reshuffle keeps the same cards and players and moves the cards to new spots, with every card face down again. New Game deals a fresh game and picks a new set of pairs at random when your list has more pairs than you chose to play with.

Can students play with a keyboard?

Yes. Every card is a button. Tab moves to the grid, the arrow keys move between cards, and Enter or Space flips the card in focus. Screen readers hear each card as it flips and whether it was a match.

Does it work on a smartboard or projector?

Yes. Classroom Presentation Mode fills the screen, hides the site’s ads and sizes the cards to fit the display. Each face-down card shows a big number, so students can call out the two cards they want to flip.
