About the 30 Minute Timer

Thirty minutes covers a full quiz, a long reading block or a group project session. Put the timer in Classroom Presentation Mode so everyone can see it, and use pause if the class needs to stop for an announcement.

Ways to use a 30 minute timer in class

  • Unit quizzes

Students pace themselves by the ring and check their work when it turns red.

  • Long reading blocks

A full half hour of reading for older or more independent readers.

  • Group projects

A project work session with a clear end so groups can plan their time.

  • Indoor recess

A visible end to indoor recess, so cleanup starts on time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see the time left from another tab?

Yes. While it runs, the browser tab shows the time left, like “12:34 · …”, and the fanfare plays at the end even if you’re working in another tab.

When does the ring turn yellow and red for 30 minutes?

Yellow at 15 minutes left (half the time) and red at 6 minutes left (the last fifth). That gives students a natural point to start wrapping up.
