About the 1 Minute Timer

One minute is short enough to keep everyone focused and long enough to get something done: a quick-write, a partner share or a reset between activities. The ring shrinks from green to yellow to red, so even pre-readers can see how much of the minute is left, and a fanfare with confetti marks the end.

Ways to use a 1 minute timer in class

  • Think time

Pose a question and give everyone a full minute to think before anyone answers. Fewer blurted answers, more raised hands.

  • Lightning tidy-up

Challenge the class to clear desks before the ring turns red. A one-minute race makes cleanup feel like a game.

  • Partner talk

Each partner gets one minute to share; press Reset for the second speaker.

  • Minute math sprints

How many facts can students write in 60 seconds? Repeat it next week and compare.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make it 90 seconds instead?

Yes. Press Add 1 min while it runs, or type 1 minute 30 seconds into the custom time fields below the ring and press Set time. The ring always shows the share of time that’s left, so it stays easy to read.

Is a one-minute timer useful for young children?

Very. Young students can’t read a digital clock yet, but they can watch a ring shrink and change color. A minute is long enough to practice waiting and short enough that it never feels like a punishment.
