About the 10 Minute Timer
Ten minutes is a natural block for focused independent work, a center rotation or a longer brain break. Projected in Classroom Presentation Mode, the ring keeps everyone aware of the time while you work with a small group.
Ways to use a 10 minute timer in class
Independent practice
Students work on their own while you pull a small group. The ring answers “how much longer?” for you.
Center rotations
Run ten-minute centers and press Reset between rotations (or R in presentation mode). Pair it with the Group Maker to form the groups.
Read to self
A ten-minute silent reading block is a common goal for building reading stamina in the primary grades.
Project check-ins
Teams work for ten minutes, then share one update before the next round.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I pause the timer?
Yes. Press Pause (or Space in presentation mode) and the countdown freezes; press Resume to continue from the same time. Press Reset (or R in presentation mode) to go back to ten minutes.
Is ten minutes too long for young students?
It depends on the task. Many kindergarten and first-grade classes build up to ten minutes of independent work during the year. The color ring helps because students can see progress instead of waiting for an unknown end.
